Week One

Welcome to a new school year! Since the world has gone so web crazy these days, I figured it would be smart to have a blog that parents could consult. This way, you will always know what is going on in my class. The first week is going to be a relatively easy one for the students. Only a couple of worksheets will be assigned. However, the students will need to get into gear quickly. I assign their largest assignment closer to the beginning of the semester. This is so for one major reason: every teacher leaves the big project for the end. This makes the end of the semester very stressful for most students; I am simply trying to make take the stress level down a bit. Hopefully it will work for them!

The project will consist of a paper and presentation. The paper will have to be 6-8 pages in length, have correct punctuation and grammar, and site at least 3 major historical events. The students will have to choose someone that they admire from the eras that we will cover this semester...basically any time from the 1920s to the 1960s. This way the students get to have have a little more choice and can choose a time that is of more interest to them. (Also, I won't have to watch 100 presentations on the same 10 people!) They will then write a paper including a biography, three major events the person was involved in or things they accomplished, and explain how they think the course of history would have been changed if that person never existed.

The presentation will be 3-5 minutes in length and summarize the student's paper. The students will also be asked to dress like that person or a historian if they are doing someone of the opposite sex.

Our first test won't be until week 4.

That's what's going on!
